Food Pantry

As people come into the church, many bring donations of canned and packaged food items for later distribution to families in the surrounding communities.  Church members who recall the Corporal Works of Mercy – feed the hungry and give drink to the thirsty – give items from their own surplus in order to share with those whose needs may be greater than their own.  Continued generosity and support for this ministry have enabled the Food Pantry to ease the strain on families and children who are experiencing shortages of food. This institution is an equal opportunity provider – http://www.fns.usda.gov/usda-nondiscrimination-statement.  Hours of operation: 2^nd and 4^th Fridays and Mondays following 2^nd and 4^th Fridays, 9-12 pm.

If you wish to donate food – here is the standard food needs:

Any canned meat such as chicken, ham, beef stew, Vienna sausage, chicken & dumplings, spam, and chili; canned tuna; canned fruit; pork & beans; canned soups; spaghetti sauce and spaghetti pasta; canned pasta with meat such as Chef Boyardee; canned vegetables; muffin mix, cake mix and pancake mix; canned or packaged potatoes; macaroni & cheese and various pastas; cereal, oatmeal, and white rice; mustard, ketchup and barbeque sauce; laundry detergent and other cleaning products

Purpose:   To ease the financial strain on families in need.

Outreach

Using the inspiration of St. Vincent de Paul and Mother Teresa, these trained volunteers help those individuals or families who are facing difficult situations or circumstances.  A plan is implemented to distribute resources earned by the parish’s management of Our Mother’s Attic Resale Shop. 

Purpose: To allocate resources for families in need.

• Responsibilities: Greet, screen, and interview families with limited means.
• Helpful Attributes: Budgeting, financial background, and excellent customer service.
• Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per month
• Training Required: Provided by Ministry
• Fingerprinting Required:  Yes

Wildwood Soup Kitchen

The Gospel mandate to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, and welcome the stranger inspires the caring volunteers of the Wildwood Soup Kitchen.  The kitchen serves the poor, the hungry, and the lonely by providing healthy, nutritious and appetizing meals to all who come to them.  They also deliver meals to shut-ins and others who are unable to travel.  Every person who asks for assistance is welcomed without regard to race, age, color, gender, national origin, religious preference, handicap or income.  This is truly an ecumenical ministry, staffed by nearly 150 volunteers from over 30 churches in the Wildwood area.

Purpose:  Provide nutritious and appetizing meals to all who come to the soup kitchen.

• Responsibilities:  Assist in preparing meals and delivering them to shut-ins and others who are unable to travel.
• Helpful Attributes:   Food preparation experience; driver’s license (if transporting food).
• Time Commitment:  Varies with commitment
• Training Required:  Provided by Wildwood Soup Kitchen
